East Meets West
In partnership with the Method Makers Global Artist Network, we are proud to present a long-awaited show between our connection of artists in the Philippines and the US.
The #EastMeetsWestShow provides an in-depth look into the art & stories of 6 revered artists that our curators have studied and developed relationships with over the past few years.
The Philippines is an East Asian country with rich cultural diversity, a long history of being colonized, and overcoming hardships through creativity and ingenuity. From Bulacan, to Laguna, & Metro Manila, the artwork from Franky Amigo, Nevs, & Exld, provide a reflection of styles from the various provinces each artist hails from. A mixture of graffiti letters, characters, abstraction, and fine lines, these three Method Makers' works pay homage to the communities in which they reside. Artifacts such as repurposed Jeepney bus signs, and religious relics such as holy water holders attached to canvases are part of the unique aesthetic these artist bring to Method Made SF for this show.
Traveling 7,000 miles to the Western United States, the third world meets the creativity of three Bay Area based artists. Also known for its melting pot of culture, influence of tech, but also the rise of poverty and hardship for most artists trying to make a living in the Bay Area, the West provides its own unique narratives. A diversity of prolific, pioneering female graffiti artist work, an ode to the history of some of the first families that established the early roads of the West, as well as the perspective of one artist pushing boundires for the freedom of creative expression - Jocelyn Superstar “Supa”, RC, and Spore bring these perspectives to light in their work for this show.
From tight deadlines, flash floods and shipping delays from the Philippines to San Francisco, working though the details to create the work with physical ailments and disabilities, the changing of jobs, moving from a home of 20+ years, and working with a shorter staff on longer hours and less time to get a show prepared… the opening of East Meets West is a testament to all artists, curators, and an entire team of people involved to make this show open in time for August 10th.
Marraming Salamat Po,
